Antecedents Entrepreneurial Motivation and Intention of Millennials in The Greater Jakarta

Although MSMEs have made a significant contribution to the state’s income and employment opportunities, the growth rate of MSMEs between 2016 and 2019 was rather minimal, standing at a mere 2% during that timeframe. This situation was exacerbated by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, prompting the government to impose extensive social restrictions in order to curb its spread. Consequently, numerous businesses experienced a decline in sales, leading to permanent closures and layoffs. A study focusing on the millennial demographic in Greater Jakarta was conducted to examine the factors influencing their motivation and inclination towards entrepreneurship.

Research focus on millennial entrepreneurship in Jakarta could contribute to understanding how to encourage new business creation, potentially revitalizing the MSME sector. MSMEs are mentioned as contributing to employment opportunities. The research on millennial entrepreneurship, if focused on empowering underprivileged millennials to start businesses, could lead to income generation and potentially reduce inequalities.
